20060504 Poor van

20060504 Poor van

Well, maybe I'll win the lottery to pay for the expected upcoming higher insurance... Coming out of my subdivision I looked left, then right, pulled forward, and suddenly a sound caught my attention - the sound of crunching metal. Then I watched as a truck materialized in front of my van, and I heard him keep going. He ended up spinning out of control, going up onto the curb, over a sign, through a grassy area, and spun to land with his back end breaking a brick wall. The other driver is ok, seems to be just a scraped finger, but EMS took him to the hospital as a precaution due to the force of impact on his truck. I don't know exactly how quickly he was going, but it's a 35 mph zone, my GUESS is twice that, after looking at the damage done and how far he went.

Lynn came to be supportive, then we took the van to the car repair shop, and he drove me to work. I am perfectly fine, physically. I always wear my seat belt, and the damage to the van seems minor, just demolished the front bumper and scraped the paint on the hood. Thankfully, we only owe our deductible, and we are SO glad to have our insurance company. Rates may go up, but we won't be dropped, and it's taken care of.
